The Great

The Shape

The shape of the XM1r is great for claw and good for fingertip, not so much palm, atleast with my hand size of 19cm x 10cm. I’d say the shape isn’t that safe due to flares, but most people will be able to get used to it, with time.

The main buttons are low profile, meaning it’s easy to get a quick click as there’s not much area to move fingers down, I prefer lower profile buttons over higher profile. The hump is towards the back of the mouse, to accommodate for that claw styled grip, though still low enough to allow for fingertip as well. It doesn’t fill my palm that much, but it’s noticeable, I’d say the Burst Pro fills your palm more.

There are no honey comb cut-outs in this mouse, it’s all a solid shell, unfortunately this does mean the weight is 70 grams but to be honest that’s a sweet spot for many people, I would also have to agree too.

Dimensions

  • EndGame Gear XM1r: 122mm x 62mm x 38mm
  • SteelSeries Aerox 3 Wireless: 120.5mm x 57mm x 37.5mm
  • ROCCAT Burst Pro: 120mm x 58mm x 38.7mm

XM1r vs ROCCAT Burst Pro

The Sensor

Unlike the XM1, the XM1r uses the PixArt 3370, but EndGame have tuned it to make it optimal. Whether this is actually noticeable is down to the person using the mouse.

Personally, I couldn’t really notice any differences when it came to tracking or input lag, though I’m sure technically they’re there. The sensor performance felt great, no noticeable delay or spin-outs on any of our pads. The sensor also has a different cut-out when compared to the XM1 V2, which should make the sensor have increased accuracy and reduce the chance of CPI deviation.

I think it’s great they’ve gone with the PixArt 3370, it really sets the foundation for EndGame Gear’s future, the 3370 is a low power sensor meaning they could easily implement it into a wireless mouse. I’d love to see a wireless XM1r, would be one heck of a mouse, one of the best on the market if they could keep the weight down.

The Build Quality

As expected, it’s got superb build quality all around; no rattles, creaking or flexing whatsoever. As the mouse was sample, I cannot comment on how build quality will be in main production, but I’d assume it’d be just as good, if not better. If there are any issues, I’m sure you could get it sorted easily, EndGame Gear are well managed when it comes to sorting things out. The mouse feels like a rock, it’s really hard to get any movement in the material at all, so awesome job here EndGame Gear.

Some Of The Buttons

M1/M2 utilise Kailh 8.0s, really nice to see, the XM1 RGB used 4.0s and they were a little heavy so it’s great to see Endgame going for something a bit lighter. They have very minimal side play or wobble, the pre-travel is minimal too with a little bit more post-travel, I like how they’re implemented. The main buttons on the XM1 don’t have any finger grooves, when I first got the original XM1 v2 I wasn’t a fan but since I’ve used it so much, I actually came to like it, and the XM1r is the same here. They also use a patented design, to allow for click latency to be very minimal, all the more helping your game.

The side buttons on our copy are the same as the XM1 V2 due to it being a sample, however on the main production copies they’ll be updated and should feel nicer and hopefully better. This means I can’t really comment on them here. I will talk about button quality though, both have minimal pre-travel but MB5 has a bit more post travel than I’d like, both buttons have little wobble, so I’d give them an alright when it comes to quality. On main production units, the side buttons should be a fair bit better and hopefully won’t suffer from some of these issues.

The Cable

Despite being a ‘downgrade’ in terms of flexibility from the XM1 V2 cable, the XM1r cable is still one of the best stock cables out there, it’s light & flexible as well as cable drag being minimal. It feels a bit similar to the cable on the MM720 or a bit similar to the Burst Pro, perfectly usable with the weight of the mouse and even better if you put it in a bungee.

The Mouse Feet

With the XM1r, EndGame Gear have gone a ‘hybrid route’, meaning you can use both big or small feet with it. I think this is quite innovative as generally, smaller feet = faster but larger feet = smoother, so it gives the user more choice and personalisation.

I found the glide to be great and fairly fast on both small and feet, but personally, I prefer the larger feet due to the more smooth feel, EndGame Gear provides the large feet as an extra in the box too. Nice to see them included, I’ve said many times, I think this should be a standard.

The Endgame Gear XM One Gaming Mouse Review: The Verdict

Spending some time with the XM One mouse, I can see what Endgame Gear are trying to do. We have a lightweight mouse with no flashy ‘gaming’ gimmicks, the design is quite basic yet the form is functional. The shell is sturdy and I have no issue with the build quality, the back button does protrude too far towards the back causing me to accidentally activate it. The material used for the shell marks very easily and over time will develop a shine in places through use. The switches and sensor are excellent however so that is a big positive. The software seems a little basic so I am hoping it improves in future iterations.

What’s not:

  • Case material marks easily
  • Ambidextrous shape but lacks alternate buttons
  • Expensive compared to the competition at MSRP

I have here another case of a lightweight mouse countering the slippery surface of the shell so heavier rubberised materials are not necessary. The forward and back button placements are a bit of a problem and the overall arch is a bit low for my grip style. The main switches are very fast and can activate even when pressed lightly, so this takes a little getting used to, coupled with an excellent sensor and understated looks this could be a contender. The software package is evidently a work in progress, the installer not being signed by Windows might but some security conscious users off but once installed the available features work well if a little basic.

Daily usage: Day to day tasks with the mouse are pleasant enough, the ergonomics are ok, the sensor really shines when doing any fine detail tasks and the four DPI settings offer plenty of choice without reconfiguring the software.

Gaming usage: For games the mouse technically performs really well, the only downside for me was that elongated back button causing inadvertent actions in game. The sensor tracking in CS:GO and Overwatch is exemplary and the switches never failed to activate, I did play around with the latency to find a sweet spot but ended up going back to default, this probably says more about my own skill level, as I think advanced players could make use of that feature. Moving on to CIV VI the accuracy of the sensor was again helpful when selecting and moving units. Not being able to switch DPI without turning the mouse over could hamper some gamers.

This mouse may very well appeal to those users who want performance with understated looks, however it would be great to see future products and designs catering for more grip styles and of course those left handed users. Currently the mouse is available for a lot less than the MSRP of £53.99. This may only be a promotional offer but the XM One can be had at the time of writing for £34.99, which actually makes it a better proposition since at the lower price you are getting a fantastic sensor and switches. I feel we can grant our Silver Award to the XM One as there is potential here and it won’t break the bank at the moment.

Thanks to Overclockers UK and Endgame Gear for sending a sample of the XM One Gaming Mouse in for review.

Final Thoughts

Right out of the gate, the XM1 had a tough hill to climb. Lacking things like profiles, Macros, programmability, customization, and no form of lighting to be seen under normal conditions are things that can be found just about anywhere these days. Taking a bold approach to mouse design, by sticking to the basic functions, soldering in top-tier components to handle the workload, and doing the basics well, so that the customer does not miss all of those fancy add-ons, it is a bold feat.

Honestly, though, we did not miss a single one of them. Of course, we tend to gravitate to games without much need for Macros, and while profiles are helpful, we still have in-game options to reassign things, so we were not entirely at a loss. We did miss the RGB LED bling as we walk into the office every day, but when in use, we can’t think of any time that we were looking at the mouse rather than the screen, making lighting sort of a moot point.

What we found is that Endgame Gear makes a reliable product ready for the rigors of gaming, and while your initial reaction may be to keep looking, for us, we are going to have a hard time when it comes time to review the next mouse. Compact and light have its advantages, and we are enjoying those advantages of ease of use too much not to find a permanent home in our office.

We do have some points we need to mention again, that, let’s say, are odd to us. First is the weight. We realize that without disconnecting the cable internally and weighing the mouse only, our 72-gram measurement could be a touch off. However, Endgame Gear made it a point in the specifications chart to add the «including cable» portion of their approximated 70 gram stated weight. In no way is that true, and we feel it is something that needs to be addressed. Our other issues were all in the software.

We understand that Endgame Gear is new to the scene and that all their ducks may not be in a perfect row just yet, but we also look at it like this, the XM1 is on store shelves. While a little late for initial impressions, we did not care for things like a buttons section only to let us disable a few buttons, that and the fact that the links do not work. While in our situation, the CPI and polling rate buttons placement not to be a huge issue, it all could have been done with a single button behind the scroll wheel, and we would not have had a point to make here. Asking a user to flip the mouse to change something is a bit over the top, and not any more cost-effective to make it inconvenient to someone in the first place.

In the end, as we ponder everything we have just said, and what we remember when using it, our feelings are mixed. On the one hand, we almost want to treat Endgame Gear with kid gloves, as this is a new company and it is their first product, but that’s not how we roll. We have to consider all other options out there, the cost, the feature set, comfort, feel, grip, all of that, and when we pile it all up and sort through it, we think the XM1 has missed the mark in many areas.

Not so much as to kill the mouse, as the XM1 is enjoyable to use on the most basic levels. At $59.99, it is a bit of a saving grace, as many eSports peripherals are in the $80 to $100 range. However, if it were us looking to buy this mouse, with what we know using it versus what we see on paper and in videos, we would wait until all the wrinkles are ironed out. Endgame Gear is damn close to getting it right, but for those with an ear to the market, and many devices offering a ton more features for just a couple more dollars invested, it is hard to put a sugar-sweet coating on the XM1.

Pulsar Xlite Wireless .

Gaming and General Impressions

DOOM & PUBG

Even though we tend to use larger mice, both in size and weight, fresh under our right hand, we had no issues adapting to the size and shape of the XM1. Right away we were in the action making headshots in PUBG like it was our job, and the hellspawn in DOOM never stood a chance, as long as we didn’t run out of ammo.

We did not miss the lighting, we did not miss the wings on the sides, and to be honest, even though it sucks to flip the mouse to access a button, we found most of our changes occurring as we changed games, so we had the time to change settings then. The glide is smooth, as is the finish, and the XM1 does seem to want to get away from you at times. If your hands are oily, or it’s warm in the room, and things start to get damp, you can and will find yourself wanting texture on the sides at the very least. Outside of that, we found no need to go further than 3200 CPI for our gaming needs, and when we tried higher, we found that over 500 CPI the amount of jitters and off shots increased, saying to us, to back the CPI down to a more comfortable and accurate level.

Windows and Productivity

Sitting on the desk for daily use, there is nothing wrong with what the XM1 offers in this regard. You can copy and paste with it; you can scroll as you can with any other mouse, and with side buttons, you can easily swap pages in a browser. Again, it may not be the most feature-rich option, but what it does do, it does it well. When it came to photo editing, this and opening folders on the desktop is when the CPI setting found our limit for us.

At 6000 CPI or above, we had issues keeping a steady hand to open folders or felt comfortable with the tool clicks while editing images. Keep in mind, it is not like we have tremors or our hands are not steady, as the pressure trying to left-click the mouse is enough to make the sensor wander. Just for giggles, we tried 16,000 CPI at the desktop, and while you could get in the general area quickly and with little movement from your right arm, wrist, and fingers, but honing in on anything specific was near impossible.

Лучшее освещение RGB

Corsair iCue Lighting Node Pro

Best Buy

Bluetooth

XM1 Config Software

Once downloaded and installed, we went ahead and opened up the XM1 Config software, and the first tab is open for «buttons.» You may start to think about button remapping, but that is not even close. What this window offers is simply the ability to use the default function, or for the middle click and side buttons, one can disable them if desired.

The sensor tab is where one goes to address the CPI level and which colors identify the four CPI settings that can be saved. There are two ways to change the CPI. In the box that says 400, for instance, you can highlight and direct enter a number, which has a one CPI adjustment rate. The other option is to use the arrows to the right of the numbers, which jumps in fifty CPI increments. There is a checkbox for ripple control, and there is a section on LOD where 1mm or 2mm can be selected, and also a «Default» box to reset the changes made in this tab.

If you wish to use a different color to identify the current CPI setting, all you have to do is to click on one of the colored portions of the four boxes. Once clicked, the smaller window opens, which allows for four additional colors than those already in use.

The update tab is a one-stop-shop to make sure you have the latest and greatest in both firmware for the XM1 as well as software to control it. In the same tab, you can also click the reset box, which will reset the mouse back to factory defaults, deleting any work you may have done here.

The support tab offers up a one-click box that takes you to the XM1 FAQ page so that you can sort through various points and see if it covers your questions, but sadly the page errors out. If you cannot find what you need there, there is a link to the support page, but for us, clicking the link does nothing even though it highlights when hovered over. Hopefully, these are things that will get sorted in later software updates.

Shape & Design

The XM1 shape is going to be great for a lot of claw and finger tip grips for sure. This mouse is a small to medium sized ambidextrous mouse with dimensions that closest resemble the Zowie S2 in length, width, and height. The mouse starts off with a slight hump at the back and completely flattens out at the front.

The sides of the mouse are curved inwards to provide ample angle and size for grip. The shape of the mouse makes it an avoid for palm grips in my opinion, it’s just too flat to get a good palm on the mouse, the hump does help a little bit. However, this might be a dream shape for claw grip or finger tip grips who find mice like the Model O or FK2 too narrow and long.

Design wise, there isn’t much going on, you could easily see this mouse in an office setting and easily pass it off as a generic office mouse. The XM1 comes in black or white, with no other options.

The XM1 clocks in at just 70 grams in its holeless shell, which is a very respectable weight and plenty light.

The cable might be the weakest aspect of the otherwise rock solid XM1, it’s quite stiff and does tend to kink up. Definitely recommended that you get a mouse bungee or mod the cable with the XM1 if you can swing it. The cable does come out of the shell at an upward angle which does help reduce drag.

The feet on the Endgame Gear XM1 are fantastic, big blobby PTFE feet line the 4 corners of the mouse and provide a great glide. Even at extreme angles I haven’t found any scratchiness, they’re great mouse feet.

Лучшая клавиатура RGB

Corsair K70 RGB TKL

Best Buy

HyperX Alloy 60

Best Buy
