On the contrary, we had better luck at optimizing the timings at the advertised DDR4-4000 frequency. A small 0.05V increase to the DRAM voltage was sufficient for us to reduce the XMP timings from 17-18-18-38 down to 15-16-16-36, which represents a major increase in performance.

G.Skill Trident Z Royal RGB 16 GB DDR4 Memory Kit Specifications
The G.Skill Trident Z Royal RGB 16 GB DDR4 memory kit rocks some impressive specifications. The new Trident Z Royal kits with Samsung B-dies are some of the fastest clocked memory kits which can go as high as 4600 MHz. The kit we received is optimized at a clock speed of 4000 MHz (PC4-4000). The memory kit consists of two 8 GB DIMMs which make up a total of 16 GB in capacity.
The memory kit has a tested latency spec of CL17 and the timings are 17-17-17-37-2N for this specific kit. Voltage set at reference is 1.35V and the memory kit comes in an unbuffered package with non-ECC (Error Correction) design.
The memory kit is fully compliant with Intel’s XMP 2.0 and can be easily set to its rated clock speeds through the BIOS shipped on the latest Intel motherboards. Memory compatibility differs from motherboard to motherboard so make sure that your board is high-end and rated to support high clock speed memory sticks.
G.Skill offers a limited lifetime warranty with their G.Skill Trident Z Royal RGB series memory kits. The height of these DIMMs is 44mm or 1.73 inches. They are a bit bulky and the heatsinks extend from the top making it harder to install these with a dual-fan heatsink cooler. Make sure there’s enough space with an air cooler before installing these. The kit would go perfectly well with an AIO liquid cooling solution, leaving room for the RGB lighting showcase.
Conclusion
G.Skill has proved it once again that they can create some of the most beautiful memory modules for PC gamers and enthusiasts. The Trident Z RGB was already a great design but taking that as a foundation for Trident Z Royal, G.Skill has crafted a stunning design which offers more than being just a visual showpiece.
Sure, RGB is not to everyone’s liking, but aside from looking great, the Trident Z Royal is a very solid memory kit that runs at it stated clock speeds without any issues. G.Skill has developed a reputation among the enthusiast community as a manufacturer of solid, high-performance and reliable memory. So we got a 4000 MHz memory kit, tested it on a high-end Z390 motherboard without running into any issues. I even went as far as overclocking the kit to an impressive 4400 MHz with much tighter timings of CL16 while staying within the JEDEC range of 1.5V and the test setup felt a lot more responsive.
As for the RGB software, G.Skill has really worked hard in this department. I remember the last time I used their RGB software for the Trident Z RGB memory when it released, it was very clunky and would crash all the times. Even the LEDs on the Trident Z RGB would remain stuck unless you cleared the previous profiles which were a cumbersome process. I am glad to say that I found no such issues using the more refined Trident Z Royal Lighting software which is fluid and can address the configurations really fast. It was a breeze testing out the new software and with more boards that are going to be added to the Trident Z RGB compatibility list, you can expect this to be a solid ram for your PC.
The G.Skill Trident Z Royal RGB series memory kit is definitely an eye-catcher and rocks an impressive specifications list with blistering fast speeds of 4000 MHz, solid overclocking performance and one of the best RGB implementations for memory modules in the industry. But all of this comes at a hefty price and the 4000 MHz, 16 GB kit would set you aside for $350 US that really makes the regular Trident Z RGB series to be sighted as a better option.

G.Skill Trident Z Royal RGB 16 GB DDR4 Memory Kit Performance Tests
I have separated the performance tests into two sections. The first section consists of pure synthetic and general workload tests while the second section would be focusing on gaming performance and how different games are affected by higher clocked memory sticks.
SuperPI
Super PI is used by many overclockers to test the performance and stability of their computers. In the overclocking community, the standard program provides a benchmark for enthusiasts to compare “world record” pi calculation times and demonstrate their overclocking abilities. The program can also be used to test the stability of a certain overclock speed.
Gaming Performance Tests
Gaming applications generally don’t see huge gains with different memory kits but DDR4 has enabled a huge gain in memory frequency which can impact gaming performance. Moving from the stock 2600 MHz to 4000 MHz can have a slight effect on performance and the improved CAS timings on some of the high-end SKUs can result in better overall FPS and system responsiveness.
2 of 9
Furthermore, while 8 GB has become the standard for gaming PCs, modern applications such as editing software and multi-tasking users can benefit hugely from 16 GB and 32 GB kits which have become more common in the gaming market over the last couple of years.
G.Skill Trident Z Royal RGB 16 GB DDR4 Memory Kit Unboxing and Close Up
The G.Skill Trident Z Royal RGB series memory comes in a standard cardboard package and not cheap plastic material. The box has the G.Skill Trident Z Royal label on the front and that’s about the entire marketing or labels that you’d see on this black colored box.
We are looking at the F4-4000C17D-16GTRS SKU which features 16 GB of RAM capacity which is clocked in at 4000 MHz at CL17 timing. The box is sealed by a single holder which can be pushed up or down to gain access to the contents within the package.
Within the package are two DDR4 DIMMs, both of which are held within black colored foam to protect the package during shipping as this is a very fragile product in design which can easily be damaged.
Outside the package, the G.Skill Trident Z Royal series includes the most stunning DRAM modules I have ever seen. G.Skill has managed to make their existing Trident Z memory modules even more interesting with the Royal theme and it sure would become a nice option for the PC modding community.
G.Skill provided us with their silver colored Trident Z Royal series memory. Do note that there are both silver and gold colored DIMMs available, however, I believe that silver is a very neutral color when building a PC compared to Gold. Gold sure amps up the appeal but you’d have to pick up a list of matching components otherwise you won’t be doing much justice to your build. The silver color opens room for various build options.
The top of the memory modules houses the highlight of the memory kit, the Radiant Crystalline bar. This unique design is kind of reminiscent to the insides of a Geode with an entirely crystal designed light diffuser which provides maximum light refraction, allowing your PC to shine even when using in low-light conditions.
The crystalline top runs the entire length of the DIMM as was the case with the Trident Z RGB series. As always, G.Skill provides you full functionality of this feature through the Trident Z Royal RGB software which allows various modes and configurations for LED tweaking and the option to set off the RGB LEDs completely.
The frame of the memory DIMMs is of a high-class design that uses polished aluminum heat spreaders of either gold and silver color (silver in our case). There’s also the extra Trident Z Tri-Fin design on the top just next next to the RGB diffuser that helps deliver extra cooling performance for a memory clocked this high.
The memory modules are bulky and pack a solid heatsink that delivers optimal thermal performance. The sides feature a large Trident Z RGB logo. The DRAMs are fully covered by this aluminum shielded heatsink so higher temperatures won’t be an issue on these sticks.
The memory sure looks spectacular but beware that it can easily catch fingerprints and requires you to clean them with the cloth provided in the package or use gloves when installing them in your PC.
G.skill Trident Z Royal Performance
first of all you need to know that:
The new design isn’t the most attractive of these memory modules. The most attractive part of these RAM are features, it’s high speed overclocking abilities and it’s great performance .
I am sure that:
You have never heard of a Ram which is rated to 4600 MHz before this one.
And this is not the last limit of speed you can go up to.You can overclock it to and insane amount of speed.
You will be amazed to know that:
I myself have overclocked my 4000 MHz kit to 4400 MHz.
So yeah, this RAM will cover your memory needs for the AAA titles from steam library
Talking about performance, here’s a way to enhance your shooting skills.
Trident Z Royal DDR4 RAM Series Technical Specifications
The Royal series RAM of trident z comes in 16GB to 128GB kits having up to 4600Mhz speed.

There is no doubt that:
More speed of Ram= More performance.
But you need to know that how much speed is your required to get your satisfactory performance.
So, for most users i will recommend to get a 8GB x2 / 8GB x4 kits of 3200MHz/ 4000MHz /4400MHz modules as these are enough for most applications and can handle most tasks easily.
Overclocking and XMP Supports of Trident Z royal Memory Modules
First of all this memory modules support XMP 2.0(Extreme Memory Profile 2.0) which will let you overclock the RAM very easily.
If you aren’t familiar with XMP then i will say that:
It is the most easiest way to overclock a ram without any further thinking. Everything is set to a decent setting and you just need to active the Extreme Memory Profile from the bios to overclock your Ram.
Want to know the best part?
You can also overclock the Ram with custom speeds and voltages. You can also set the clocks as you need to get the perfect speed out of these memory modules.
If you find overclocking of RAM hard then you can check our in-depth RAM overclocking guide.
Trident Z Royal Design
You might be doubtful about the design of the new Trident Z Royal series memory modules. Specially, if you haven’t seen one in person. But no problem, i have seen them.
And Let me assure you that that:
I just bought these modules only because of its beauty. And I found the pros and cons later.
But I don’t want you to do like that. I really want you to know if this glittering thing is gold or not.
I firmly believe that:
Trident Z Royal series memory modules are made for the next level beautification for your Gaming PCs. You just can’t take your eyes off it while they are glowing. Just kidding. But honestly, I will say that, these are the best looking RAM I have seen so far.
I mean, What can you ignore? Every single thing looks Damn gorgeous starting from the heat sink to the RGB illuminated crystal like cover.
The new heat sinks of this RAM are made of glossy finished metals and they look stunning when they reflect the RGB lights.
These gorgeous looking memory modules come with two color variants: Gold and Silver.
Check Today’s Price of Trident Z Royal Gold 4000Mhz ➜➜
The best thing you will notice in a second:
Is the crystal like illuminating part under which there are addressable RGB LEDs. The RGB illuminated part continuously changes colors and gives a beautiful Rainbow-like effect at default settings.
Talking about RGB here are the bifenix enso RGB case and ARGB AIO liquid cooler.
Better Heat Sinks for Faster Cooling
The new heat sinks are mainly designed for better cooling performance and stunning looks.
I mostly like the glossy finishing of it as it shines under RGB lighting of the PC. These heat sinks are made for highly overclocking incompatibilities.
You might be wondering:
But, what these heat sinks are made of?
The heat sinks of these memory modules are of completely newly designed and the alloy of metal body of the heat sinks are mostly comprised of Aluminium. So, it’s both attractive and effective for performance.
All New Gorgeous RGB Illumination
The Royal series RAM of Trident Z has got a better illuminating design than its predecessor. The new design of the crystal like plastic makes the RGB illuminations more beautiful.
You will get Heart-Shaped eyes:
Seeing the beauty of these glittering jewellry like memory modules inside your PC.
Under the illuminating body there are 8 LED zones for controlling the light’s color separately.
The good thing is, the LEDs are addressable as a result, perfect rainbow effect and many other cool moving lighting effect can be made with it
You can control the RGB effect of these LEDs by G.skill’s official software Trident Z RGB control.
One problem, that is:
For now, this RAM support only Aura Sync by which you can control RGB effects if you have an Aura Sync supported ASUS motherboard.
Hopefully these memory modules will support the other softwares too in future. if you face any problem regarding to RGB LED lights syncing then you can check this easy fix for asus aura sync.
Bottom Line
While aesthetics is a subjective matter, the Trident Z Royal DDR4-4000 C17’s strong performance is unquestionable. A bit of fine-tuning can even take the memory kit to another level. While we can’t speak for every single kit, our sample was stable with very tight timings with just a small bump in the DRAM voltage. A CAS Latency of 15 is no joke, considering that we are dealing with DDR4-4000 speeds here.
There’s one important aspect to take into consideration with the Trident Z Royal DDR4-4000 C17, though. The memory kit evidently performs at its highest on the Intel platform. Zen 2 processors will have a very hard if not impossible time to run these memory modules in a 1:1 ratio between the FCLK and MCLK. Zen 2 chips typically support up to 1,800 MHz on the FCLK (DDR4-3600), with the really spectacular samples doing a bit higher. The latest Zen 3 parts, on the other hand, have a higher chance of exploiting the Trident Z Royal memory kit as hitting a 2,000 MHz FCLK (DDR4-4000) isn’t a given, but it’s more common. That’s really the sweet spot for this kit on a Ryzen platform.
The Trident Z Royal DDR4-4000 C17 is a high-end memory kit, and it’s priced like one. It retails for (opens in new tab) and represents a good purchase if you want a fast memory kit that doesn’t hinder your equally high-end system.

G.Skill Trident Z Royal –
G.Skill Trident Z Royal RGB 16 GB DDR4 Memory Kit — RGB Lighting Showcase
The main focus of the new G.Skill memory kit is RGB and boy oh boy, does it look great. The RGB LEDs are controlled directly through signal processing via the DDR4 memory slot. G.Skill has software known as «Trident Z Royal Lighting Control» which is still in infancy but does offer good support for the memory on various Intel 300-series motherboards.
2 of 9
The memory runs in the default «Rainbow Wave» mode when plugged in the slots. G.Skill has enabled RGB support on ASUS AURA motherboards and will later be extended to other manufacturers. We tested the kit with a GIGABYTE motherboard and while the software ran without any issues although this is currently BETA support so we can expect further features.
Through the software, LEDs for each memory can be configured individually. There is a range of RGB effects and animations available along with static mode and you can also turn the LEDs on and off.
